Ontario man charged with murder in northern Saskatchewan homicide

A 24-year-old Ontario man has been charged in connection with a homicide in the northern community of Sucker River in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

Police say Andrew Douglas MacDonald of Lindsay, Ont., was arrested on June 11 and charged with second-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old Stephen McKenzie.

According to police, he was arrested at the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatoon Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team and transported back to Saskatchewan.

He is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on June 12.

At around 12:20 a.m. on March 4, officers from the La Ronge detachment were called to a home in the northern Saskatchewan community for a report of an injured person.

Arriving officers found an injured man and provided medical care until EMS transported him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
