Severe thunderstorm warnings issued in southern, central Sask.

Residents across Saskatchewan’s east central and southeast regions are being warned about the potential of severe thunderstorm activity Monday.

In an alert issued at 3:47 p.m., Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) stated meteorologists were tracking a line of severe thunderstorms with the capacity to bring ping pong ball sized hail and heavy rain.

One of the systems was reported to be slow moving from its formation point over the Porcupine Provincial Forest, located southwest of Kamsack.

Another warning was issued just prior to 3:30 p.m. and affected the area of Kipling and Wawota. The collection of storms were said to be capable of toonie sized hail and heavy showers.

ECCC recommends that all residents in the storm areas move to shelter to avoid any potential flying debris and hail.

As of 4:15 p.m. the majority of Saskatchewan’s southeast corner was under a severe thunderstorm watch - while much of the north and west regions of the province remain under air quality advisories due to wildfire smoke.
