Sask. Health Authority begins improved reporting of service disruptions today

The Saskatchewan Health Authority to now begin posting all emergency service disruptions.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) begins its increased emergency disruption reporting today.

In late April, the Government of Saskatchewan directed the SHA to provide updates on emergency service disruptions twice a day – at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Previously, the SHA only reported them at 4 p.m.

“The Saskatchewan Health Authority’s priority is to ensure high-quality emergency services are available in communities across the province, and our teams make every effort to avoid disruptions wherever possible,” said SHA Chief Operating Officer Derek Miller.

“When temporary disruptions do occur, we are committed to providing timely and accurate information for patients, families and communities to help ensure people can make informed decisions about where to seek care.”

The SHA began providing daily updates in November 2025. However, the reporting system came under fire from the Opposition NDP for not providing real-time updates.

This prompted the NDP to introduce Bill 606: The Provincial Health Authority ER Closures ‘Right to Know’ Amendment Act, which sought to provide the public with the same real-time data available to SHA managers.

However, the bill was ultimately defeated.

The SHA’s website provides an alphabetical listing of all SHA facilities experiencing disruptions to emergency services. The disruptions are also shown on the Facility & Location page.

The provincial health authority also provides real-time availability updates through Healthline 811. The SHA says disruption notices are also posted at local facilities which are shared locally.
