Windsor police have charged three people with impaired driving-related offences after separate incidents during the Canada Day holiday. Shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Ambassador Bridge stopped a male driver who had taken a wrong turn into Canada. Police say the driver appeared disoriented, had an odour of alcohol on his breath, and failed to provide a breath sample upon request. Following an arrest by CBSA, the motorist was transported to Windsor Police Headquarters. A 31-year-old man was charged with failure to provide a breath sample. Later that day, at 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision in a restaurant drive-thru in the 2500 block of Tecumseh Road East. The male driver of one vehicle displayed multiple signs of impairment, including poor balance, bloodshot eyes, and an odour of alcohol on his breath. A 42-year-old man was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation of a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. Several hours later, shortly after 1 a.m. on July 2, officers responded to a report of a male passed out inside a vehicle in the 1700 block of Shepherd St. E. Officers located the driver asleep behind the wheel and observed open alcohol in the vehicle. Officers woke the driver and transported him to Windsor Police headquarters, where he failed a breath test. A 28-year-old man was charged with operation of a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
