Air conditioning fire prompts PSA amid heatwave

An air conditioning fire has prompted a public service announcement from London fire amid the ongoing heatwave.

Crews were called on Thursday to an air conditioning fire in the 200 block of Callaway Road. Crews said they arrived to find flames on a second-floor balcony of a three-storey apartment, which went into the unit.

Quick action prevented significant damage and no injuries were reported. One cat was rescued.

The London Fire Department is reminding that with the heat, air conditioning units are working overtime. You can prevent fires by plugging units directly into a wall outlet, keep the filters clean, avoid overloading extension cords, and turn the unit off if you notice any smoke, burning smells, or unusual noises.
