Regina remains Conservative held, but with tighter margins

While the only changes to Saskatchewan’s electoral map were in the province’s far north – the results followed a similar trend in the provincial capital.

All three Conservative incumbents held onto to their seats in the Regina area. However, they faced a more determined resistance from Liberal challengers.

Regina Wascana incumbent Michael Kram repeated his performance from 2021, capturing 49.9 per cent of the vote with 23,370 ballots cast. Liberal challenger Jeffrey Walters managed to secure 20,646 votes for 44.1 per cent of the vote.

The result marks a 17.2 per cent increase for the party from 2021. NDP support in the riding fell from 18.1 in 2021 to 4.7 per cent.

Regina Wascana has now been held by a Conservative for three straight elections. The seat was occupied by longtime MP Ralph Goodale for more than 20 years. Goodale was defeated in the 2019 general election.

In Regina Lewvan, the Liberals also placed second, with candidate Mac Hird recording 42.7 per cent of the vote, improving over the NDP’s second place finish in 2021 (34.5 per cent).

Incumbent Warren Steinley was re-elected with 21,758 votes (50.3 per cent) – while the NDP’s Ray Aldinger came in a distant third with 2,187 votes (4.7 per cent).

Regina Qu’Appelle was seen as especially safe, as former Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer has held the seat since 2004.

Scheer secured 63.8 per cent of the vote with 25,539 ballots. The Liberals came in a distant second with 27 per cent, while the NDP secured just 8.1 per cent.

The Liberal result marked a more than 16 per cent jump in support from 2021, while the NDP’s support fell more than 12 per cent.

The results told a very similar story in Saskatoon, with Liberal challengers replacing the NDP candidates as the runners up.

Meanwhile, Saskatchewan’s rural seats voted overwhelmingly Conservative - with the party capturing more than 80 per cent of the vote in some ridings.

Votes are still being tallied across the nation and no totals are finalized yet. As of 12 p.m. Tuesday, the Liberals claimed 169 seats, while the Conservatives secured 144.
