Officials say a fire at the Kitchener Market is not considered suspicious. Crews were called to 300 King Street East around 1 a.m. on Sunday. The city said the flames were believed to have started at a vendor’s stall. “The suspected source of the fire is unknown but foul play is not suspected,” they wrote in a media release, adding that there will not be an investigation. No one was hurt. The city said damage to the market is estimated at $50,000. “There are no structural concerns with the building at this time,” they wrote. According to a social media post from the Downtown Kitchener BIA, the fire will not affect the outdoor viewing parties for the FIFA World Cup. “There will be no access to the market building for the next few games as cleaning continues,” they wrote. “This means vendors and the bar will not be available, though portable washrooms will be on site.”
