3 seriously injured, 1 airlifted to hospital in rural west Ottawa crash

Three people were seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash in Ottawa’s rural west end on Monday afternoon.

First responders were called to Ormrod Road in the village of Ashton just south of Highway 7 after a collision between a pickup truck and an SUV, according to Ottawa police.

Ottawa Paramedic Service Nicolas Guertin says firefighters, police, Lanark County ambulance and Ornge Air ambulance assisted in responding to the scene.

A man in his 70s inside one of the vehicles was airlifted to hospital by Ornge Air ambulance in serious but stable condition.

A man in his 60s was trapped inside another vehicle and had to be extricated by Ottawa firefighters, Guertin says. After being rescued from the vehicle, he was transported to hospital by Lanark County paramedics in serious but stable condition.

A woman in her 30s travelling in the same vehicle was also taken to hospital by ambulance in serious but stable condition, Guertin says.

Ottawa police say road closures remain in effect in the area.

Ormrod Road is closed between Flewellyn Road and Ashton Station Road.

“Please avoid the area and take an alternate road,” police say.

The scene is located about 45 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa.
