A man in Regina accused of breaking into a compound with the goal of stealing copper wire has been charged. Regina police say a call came in around 1 a.m. on Monday, leading officers to a suspicious vehicle on the 400 block of Winnipeg Street. The Regina Police Service’s (RPS) aerial support unit found the vehicle and witnessed a suspect in the area. According to police the suspect was seen moving through several properties until 2:30 a.m., when he parked his vehicle on 2nd Avenue North near Quebec Street and returned to a compound on the 400 block of Winnipeg Street. Police say the suspect entered the compound and took some copper wire. The suspect then left the compound and headed back towards his vehicle. At this point officers moved in and took him into custody. A search revealed a pair of wire cutters. A 50-year-old man faces one count of break and enter with intent, and one count of possessing break in instruments. He’s set to make his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Oct. 1.
