Ranch Ehrlo holds ‘tiny’ artist showcase in Pilot Butte

A tiny display is showing off some big talent in the community of Pilot Butte, aiming to integrate youth and adults in the area.

In partnership with the Ranch Ehrlo Society and the Town of Pilot Butte, a tiny display is showing off some big talent in the community, aiming to integrate youth and adults in the area.

Over 200 pieces of art were showcased on Sunday at community’s town hall.

“The artists were just given free reign to paint, draw, collage, speed, whatever they wanted,” said Leslie Charlton, arts program supervisor at the Ranch Ehrlo Society. “We have 213 art pieces of a really gorgeous, eclectic mix. It really shows the diversity and the sort of amazing talent of the people that live at Ranch Ehrlo.”

The “Tiny Art Show” features portraits, drawings and crafts created by members of the Ranch Ehrlo Society, a non-profit that provides group care and social services to individuals and families.

The organization was invited by Pilot Butte’s town council and library in effort to welcome both youth and young adults into the community.

“They have already built some community with the kids that live in our houses, but they wanted to further that,” expressed Charlton. “They were really kind and really gracious just to say they want the kids that live at Ranch Ehrlo to understand that they’re part of this community.”

The show also includes some art produced by the town which can be bought by the public, as part of a fundraiser for the community.

“We always get kids coming by our house on Halloween and it always warms my heart,” said Councillor Don Turner.

“In the spirit of reconciliation and just wanting to make the kids out there feel a part of the community, they come to our library, use the computers and the internet and stuff, we just really wanted to bridge that gap and make them feel more welcome and a part of our town.”

Between the group homes in Regina and Pilot Butte, about 90 individuals contributed to the show.

“It’s a really nice opportunity for them to be celebrated, to have an exciting event to just showcase what they’re all about,” said Charlton.

The art will be displayed at the Pilot Butte Public Library branch until Dec. 10.
