A major wave of thunderstorms is forecasted to bring heavy rainfall to Yorkton and much of eastern Saskatchewan. In an alert issued at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Environment and Climate Canada (ECCC) warned of heavy rainfall slated for Monday evening, leading into Tuesday morning. The alert was issued due to a low-pressure system moving in from North and South Dakota through southern Manitoba. Rainfall totals of anywhere from 35 millimetres (mm) to 90 mm are expected before the storm tapers off on Tuesday. ECCC noted that in some localized cases, rainfall in excess of 150 mm is possible with the storm system. “Localized flooding is likely. Some roads may become impassable. Utility outages are likely. Significant property damage is likely,” the alert read. The alert is in effect for a large swath of eastern Saskatchewan, stretching from Goose Lake in the north to Esterhazy in the south – extending as far west as Greenwater Lake.
