Major storm set to hit parts of Saskatchewan, up to 15 cm of snow possible

Another late-season storm is set to hit parts of Saskatchewan, with up to 15 centimetres (cm) of snow possible in some areas.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the storm is expected to impact western and southern portions of the province beginning Wednesday and lasting into the weekend.

Areas under the special weather statement include Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Eston, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and surrounding areas.

Precipitation is expected to begin as rain on Wednesday and transition to snow overnight, the weather agency said. There will also be a risk of thunderstorms in the southern regions and a risk of freezing rain in east-central regions.

ECCC says the storm will be a “prolonged snowfall event,” with snow expecting to last into Saturday. Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm are possible.
