The Canadian Football League (CFL) has reinstated former Saskatchewan Roughrider Ajou Ajou. The free agent wide receiver will face conditions and restrictions if he is signed by one of the league’s nine teams. The CFL made the announcement on Tuesday. Ajou had been suspended for no fewer than six games back in April after a third-party investigation found Ajou had violated the league’s gender-based violence and harassment policy during an incident at a Regina restaurant on Nov. 18, 2025. The Roughriders announced they had released Ajou on April 16, the same day the suspension became public. Ajou’s reinstatement was dependent on the athlete completing 15 mandatory counselling sessions from a gender-based violence expert, a psychological assessment by another independent expert and a meeting with CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston. “Mr. Ajou’s ongoing conditions reflect the need for him to demonstrate a continued commitment to upholding league standards,” the CFL’s statement read. “These conditions are confidential and shall not be disclosed.” Should Ajou be signed by a team he will need to serve his six-game suspension before he will be eligible to return to play. According to the league, suspended players cannot take part in regular season or post-season games. They may take part in practices or meetings, which is a decision left to each team. “The CFL condemns gender-based violence and harassment in all of its forms, including but not limited to intimate partner violence, physical and sexual assault, verbal abuse, coercive control, as well as the disrespectful and demeaning attitudes that foster violence or the tolerance of such violence,” the league added. “Whether these behaviours occur in public or private, gender-based violence and harassment will not be tolerated by the CFL.”
