Counterfeit Oxycontin a concern, police warn

Regina police are trying to determine if a large quantity of Oxycontin 80 pills they seized are counterfeit. This type of pill is not readily available which leads the police to believe Oxycontin 80 pills on the street are fake.

The pills are describes as a round, convex-shape and blue-green in colour. They have “CDN” stamped on one side and “80” on the other.

Instead of Oxycontin, the pills may contain other unknown, potentially deadly, ingredients.

Since the beginning of the year police in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw have issued similar advisories.

The Office of the Chief Coroner has confirmed that four deaths have been linked to fake Oxycontin and one more recent fatality may also be related.

Police want to warn people that any drug which has not been prescribed by a doctor and dispensed by a pharmacist poses a serious risk of injury or death.

Anyone with information about the origin or distribution of these pills is asked to call the Regina Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
