Women of the Dawn Ministry is helping address food insecurity in Regina’s North Central neighbourhood through its Come & Eat program. The program provides meals twice a month to children and families in the community. Organizers say it supports people experiencing food insecurity, addiction and homelessness. Women of the Dawn Ministry supports children and families in the city of Regina for over 30 years,” said Ivy Kennedy, chairwoman of Women of the Dawn Ministry. “The company program is where we feed children and their families in the North Central area.” Kennedy said the organization sees significant poverty, homelessness and addiction in the neighbourhood. “In North Central, we see a lot of poverty, a lot of homelessness,” she said. “We see a lot of addictions affecting many of our children’s families.” Kennedy said the organization focuses on providing food to children and families who need support. “We try our best to focus on the children, to feed them,” she said. The organization held a community barbecue Friday afternoon as part of the initiative. The event aimed to bring residents together and raise awareness about the needs of people living in the area. Women of the Dawn Ministry relies on donations, sponsors and community partners to continue providing meals. Residents interested in supporting the program are encouraged to donate, volunteer or become a community partner.
