What’s playing this weekend: March 3-5

We are checking out this week's new movies in theatres and streaming at home, including a great family friendly movie.

Demers joined CTV Your Morning Ottawa on Friday to speak about three new releases you can catch in theatres this weekend.

Hoppers (Rated PG)

“Hoppers” is the latest film from Pixar, the creators of animated classics like Toy Story, Inside Out and Wall-E. According to Mr. Hollywood, the film studio has landed another hit.

“This is another top tier film from them,” he said. “It’s a lot cute, a little absurd at times, in a good way, but always endearing and it’s got this great message about the environment and we’re all in this together.”

Demers says this film should go over especially well for families with young ones.

The film is directed by Daniel Chong. It stars Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm.

The Bride! (Rated R)

According to Mr. Hollywood, this a “punk-rock” take on Frankenstein that will be unlike anything you’ve seen before.

“Swings were taken. Choices were made,” Demers said.

Mr. Hollywood says director Maggie Gyllenhaal may be throwing a bit too much at the audience in this film, but he was “entertained the whole way through.”

“The Bride!” was written and directed by Gyllenhaal. It has a star-studded cast headlined by Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale and Annette Benning.

Sweetness (Rated R)

According to Demers, this “unhinged” Canadian film is like a teenage version of “Misery,” the classic Stephen King book-turned-movie.

“This movie took me on some surprising twists and turns. I like this a lot. It’s kind of dark and gritty at times, and violent, but always keeps you on the edge,” he said.

The film is written and directed by Emma Higgins. It stars Justin Chatwin, Steven Ogg and Erika Swayze.
