Suspended driver stopped on Ottawa road charged with impaired driving: OPP

A 43-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after being stopped in Ottawa on Friday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police say an officer stopped a vehicle on Carling Avenue after receiving an alert from the automated licence plate recognition camera that the registered owner was a suspended driver.

“Upon speaking with the driver, police suspected the driver of being under the influence of alcohol,” Const. Michael Fathi said.

“A roadside screening device was utilized and the driver was brought back to Ottawa Detachment for further testing. Police also discovered there was an arrest warrant for the driver from the Ottawa Police Service.”

The driver is facing charges of operation while impaired, driving while under suspension and driving a motor vehicle with no validated permit. Fathi said the driver also received a 90-day driving suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

11 suspended drivers caught on Ottawa roads

Ontario Provincial Police hit the brakes on several people driving on Ottawa’s roads without insurance over the Family Day weekend.

Police say officers using the automated licence plate recognition camera technology in cruisers caught 11 drivers on the roads without insurance on Friday.

The minimum fine for driving without insurance is $5,000.

Police say officers caught three suspended drivers on Ottawa highways.

The fine for driving while under suspension is $2,000 upon conviction.
