Ottawa city council ratifies collective agreements with OC Transpo and other city staff

Ottawa city council has formally ratified collective agreements with two unions representing city staff.

Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 279 voted this month to ratify a three-year collective agreement with the city for OC Transpo drivers, mechanics, and other frontline staff. The previous contract expired on March 31, 2025.

Councillors voted Wednesday to ratify the agreement following an in-camera session.

City council also approved a new contract with the Ottawa-Carleton Public Employees’ Union Local 503 (CUPE) that represents aquatic and part-time recreational and culture department employees.

Their contract expired Dec. 31, 2024. A tentative agreement was reached June 24 and has since been ratified by union members.

Both approvals passed unanimously at Wednesday’s council meeting.

Terms of the agreements have yet to be made public.

“The City and the respective unions for which collective agreements were ratified by Council today will be undertaking a final review of the documents before they are formally finalized,” said interim City Solicitor Stuart Huxley in a statement.

“Once that review is completed, the documents will be posted to the City’s internal network and available on request. The final review could take several months as both parties conduct their due diligence.”
