OPP respond to several collisions on Hwy. 417 in Ottawa following freezing rain storm

It was a slow commute across Ottawa Thursday morning, as several collisions caused delays on Highway 417 in Ottawa.

Light freezing rain was reported across Ottawa early this morning, leaving roads slippery in some places. A freezing rain warning was in effect between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Ontario Provincial Police urged drivers to avoid Highway 417 between Innes Road and the Vanier Parkway.

“Due to a few collisions, expect significant traffic delays and use alternate routes,” the OPP said. “Investigations and clean-up efforts are underway.”

There was a collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 near St. Laurent Boulevard just before 7 a.m.

The Ministry of Transportation reported collisions on Highway 417 westbound at Cyrville Road and Highway 417 at Belfast between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.

A collision was also reported in the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 at Carling/Kirkwood.
