One new case of COVID-19 in Ottawa Sunday

OTTAWA — Ottawa Public Health is reporting a single new case of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Sunday.

No new deaths from COVID-19 were reported.

To date, the city has seen 27,729 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began and 592 residents have died.

Three more cases in the city are considered resolved, dropping the number of active cases to 36.

Weekly trends remain low, with the seven-day rate of new cases per 100,000 population dropping to 3.6 from 3.8.

However, the estimated reproduction number has climbed in recent days according to OPH estimates, rising slightly above 1 for the first time in months, suggesting viral spread is increasing.

Across the province, health officials confirmed another 166 cases of COVID-19 and said six more Ontarians have died due to the virus. Another 278 cases are now considered resolved. Public Health Ontario added two new cases to its total for Ottawa on Sunday. Figures from OPH often differ from those provided by Public Health Ontario because the two health agencies pull data for their respective daily snapshot reports at different times of the day.

Only one new case was reported in the eastern Ontario region outside of Ottawa, in the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health area.

Step 2 of Ontario's Roadmap to Reopen plan began at 12:01 a.m. June 30. Step 3 is due to begin July 16.

ACTIVE CASES OF COVID-19 IN OTTAWA

The number of known active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa is near the lowest it's been since the first wave in 2020.

There are 36 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Sunday, down from 38 on Saturday.

OPH reported that three more people recovered after testing positive for COVID-19. The total number of resolved cases of coronavirus in Ottawa is now 27,101.

The number of active cases is the number of total laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 minus the numbers of resolved cases and deaths. A case is considered resolved 14 days after known symptom onset or positive test result.

Ottawa Public Health updates vaccine numbers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. As of Friday:

There are no patients in the intensive care unit.

As of April 7, two cases of COVID-19 in a resident or staff member of a long-term care home, retirement home with an with an epidemiological link, within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the facility is considered an outbreak in a long-term care home or retirement home. One laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a staff member or resident of other institutions such as shelters, group homes, is considered an outbreak. In childcare settings, two children or staff or household member cases of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 within a 14-day period where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the childcare establishment is considered an outbreak in a childcare establishment.
