Man’s death in Perth park deemed a homicide: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police say a man’s death in a Perth park last weekend has been deemed a homicide.

Police responded to Last Duel Park at approximately 3:15 p.m. Sunday where a man was located with life-threatening injuries.

He was transported to hospital and later pronounced dead.

In an update Tuesday evening, OPP said the identity of the victim has been confirmed and will be withheld until next of kin can be notified.

Officers told CTV News Ottawa on Monday that the victim was a man in his 30s.

Police believe the incident was targeted with no signs of a broader threat to the public.

It’s unclear if any arrests have been made. OPP said Monday they were still looking for a suspect.

“The park has reopened, and there is no longer a heavy police presence in the area. Police continue to investigate and are actively monitoring the situation,” police said Tuesday.

It’s the third homicide in Perth in 10 years. In 2016, a 45-year-old man was killed at a campground in the same park.
