Here’s how much it cost to rent an apartment in Ottawa and Kingston in November

Renters in Ottawa and Kingston found some relief in the rental market in November, as the rents for one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments dropped in the two cities.

The National Rent Report from Rentals.ca and Urbanation shows the average cost of rent in Ottawa was $2,188 last month, while the average rent in Kingston was $2,323.

The average cost to rent a one-bedroom apartment in Ottawa was $1,957 in November, down from $1,960 in October and $1,977 in September. A two-bedroom apartment cost an average of $2,491 last month, down from $2,514 a month in October and $2,553 in September.

The report shows the average rent in Kanata was $2,485 in November, with a one-bedroom apartment costing an average of $2,232 and a two-bedroom costing $2,561.

In Kingston, the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment was $2,084 in November, down from $2,131 in October and $2,122 in September. A two-bedroom apartment cost an average of $2,539 last month, down from $2,610 in October.

Across Canada, rents declined 3.1 per cent to an average of $2,074, according to Rentals.ca and Urbanation. The report says it’s the lowest average asking rent across Canada since June 2023.

“Rents declined for the 14th month in a row, decreasing 3.1 per cent from a year ago and down 4.6 per cent from two years earlier,” the report said.

“Compared to November 2023, average rents were $100 per month lower.”

North Vancouver has the highest average rent in Canada at $3,018 a month, with a one-bedroom costing $2,493 a month in November. The average rent was $2,696 in Vancouver, $2,582 in Oakville and $2,521 in Toronto.

The average rent in Gatineau was $1,953 a month in November, with a one-bedroom renting for an average of $1,697.
