Ontario Provincial Police say a tire that came off a vehicle on Highway 417 in Ottawa struck two other vehicles Wednesday morning. A vehicle being driven in the eastbound lanes lost a tire shortly before 7:30 a.m. on the highway near Parkdale Avenue, according to police. “The tire jumped the median and struck two vehicles travelling westbound. Thankfully, there were no injuries,” Const. Michael Fathi said in a post on X. The driver had recently changed his own tires but had not double torqued them, Fathi said. The incident on Wednesday follows a similar incident on Friday, in which a driver was seriously injured by a flying tire on the highway. “Losing a tire results in an automatic court appearance and a minimum $2,000 fine,” Fathi wrote. CAA recommends drivers retorque their wheel nuts within 100 kilometres of driving after a tire service or installation to ensure safety and performance.
