Northern Tornadoes Project confirms weekend tornado near Lucan

Researchers with Western’s Northern Tornadoes Project have confirmed two separate weather events from last weekend.

They say there was microburst at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Lucan area, followed shortly after by a tornado further east.

Both events have been classified as EF-0, with estimated wind speeds reaching 130 and 110 kilometres an hour respectively.

It’s the first confirmed Canadian tornado of the 2026 season.
