Drummer for Ottawa’s Kathleen Edwards locates missing snare drum

The drummer for Ottawa’s Kathleen Edwards is appealing for the public’s help after his drums fell out of his car after a show Thursday night.

The drummer for Ottawa’s Kathleen Edwards has been reunited with his missing snare drum.

Peter Von Althen, who drums for the Juno-nominated singer-songwriter, performed at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage Thursday night with another Ottawa band, the Golden Low.

After dropping off a friend in Nepean, Von Althen says he must not have closed the tailgate to his truck properly, and somewhere between Woodroffe Avenue and MacLaren’s Landing, a bronze Ludwig snare and a Yamaha tom dropped out of the vehicle.

On Saturday, Von Althen said he located his missing equipment.

“Found completely underwarter in a ditch,” Von Althen told CTV News Ottawa.

Von Althen says he didn’t realize until the morning after his show that his tailgate was down. Once he realized the drums were missing, he drove the same route to see if they were still on the road.

“I was thinking, ‘what an idiot,’” Von Althen said. “I just thought, the chances of finding them are pretty slim, and they mean a lot to me.”

After an unsuccessful trip, Von Althen put out a post on Facebook, asking for anyone who may have seen the drums or picked them up to get in contact with him.

“I was right at the back of the truck, I think it just it fell out pretty much immediately, my hope is someone grabbed them, doesn’t really know what it is and they’re sitting in their house,” Von Althen adds.

“It’s very heartening to see how many people want to help and it makes it feel a little bit better,” he adds. “Lots of people were commenting with their own stories of also being a little dumb at times.”

Edwards also put out a call on social media, asking people to keep an eye out for the Von Althen’s drums.
