An RCMP officer working in the Vancouver Island community of Port McNeill has been charged with assault in connection with an alleged incident last summer. The B.C. Prosecution Service said the single criminal count was approved against Const. Keegan Schneider of the Port McNeill RCMP on Monday. “The charge was approved by an experienced Crown counsel who has no connection with the accused,” the BCPS said in a news release. Few other details have been shared with the public, except that the alleged incident occurred in Port McNeill—a town on the North Island with a population of around 2,400 people—on June 21, 2025. It’s unclear if Schneider was working at the time, or whether he remains on active duty in light of the criminal investigation. CTV News has reached out to the B.C. RCMP for more information.
