Charges laid after carjacking in Pembroke, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 46-year-old man after a reported carjacking in Pembroke on Tuesday.

Police say officers were called at around 4:50 p.m. on reports a man was trying to get into people’s cars. Police later learned that the suspect had stolen a vehicle and had driven away.

Officers located the stolen vehicle on Highway 17 near Renfrew and tried to stop it with a spike belt but were unsuccessful.

The driver later crashed, ran out, and tried to steal another car before being arrested.

The accused, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery with violence, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, obstructing police, assaulting police, assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
