A 92-year-old Ottawa woman will be celebrating with a new dining room set after scoring $50,000 in the lottery on Valentine’s Day. Retired flower shop owner Anneliese K. of Nepean won the prize in the Feb. 14 Lotto 6/49 Super Draw. “I always play the same set of numbers. One of them is the age I was when I came to Canada – 19,” she shared while visiting the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) Prize Centre in Toronto to collect her winnings. Anneliese says she discovered her win during a routine trip to the grocery store. “When I checked my ticket, I saw a bunch of zeros and said, ‘Oh, there must be something wrong with this machine,’” she said. “I asked a grocery store worker for help because I couldn’t believe it. They told me I won and I just started shaking.” She then called her daughter and told her to “go out and buy the biggest roast beef you can find – I just won $50,000.” “I feel wonderful,” she said. “Sharing the news with my family was even better than the win itself.” Outside of a new dining room set, she says she plans to share the prize with her grandchildren. Anneliese purchased the ticket at Metro on Merivale Road in Nepean. The Feb. 14 Lotto 6/49 Super Draw featured 20 guaranteed $50,000 prizes in addition to its regular jackpot draws.
