A 26-year-old commercial motor vehicle driver from Brampton has been charged with several offences following an incident Aug. 6 on Highway 17 in Blind River. Around 3:35 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police crime unit was on the highway headed east when officers “observed a commercial motor vehicle in front of them being operated in an unsafe manner.” “The officer observed the tractor-trailer braking abruptly, following a vehicle too closely and forcing the vehicle off the roadway,” police said in a news release Aug. 7. Careless driving, more than 1 licence “The officer initiated a traffic stop at the west end of Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.” He is charged with careless driving, driving too closely, driving left of centre on a curve, driving left of centre while approaching the crest of the grade, speeding and possessing more than one licence. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice-Provincial Offences in Blind River on Sept. 15. “All motorists, including commercial vehicle operators, have a responsibility to share the road safely,” police said. “Unsafe driving behaviours put all road users at risk. The OPP remains committed to improving road safety through education and enforcement.”
