Thunder Bay man facing dozen charges after a pair of robberies

A 64-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing a slew of charges following a police investigation into two robberies beginning late last year.

The Thunder Bay Police Service received a report of a robbery taking place on Cumberland Street South just after noon on Dec. 30.

“Officers spoke to staff and determined there were no injuries and that the suspect had left the scene,” police said in a news release.

Days later, on Jan. 2, officers responded to a separate business in the Algoma Street area in response to another robbery that was in progress. When officers arrived, the suspect had already left the scene.

Further investigation led police to identify a suspect. Thunder Bay police located the man and took him into custody on Jan. 30 with the assistance from Ontario Provincial Police.

Numerous charges laid

As a result of the investigation, the accused is facing charges including robbery, two counts of violent robbery, two counts of disguise with intent, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, forcible confinement and cruelty to animals.

He was charged with three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

“Some of these charges were laid in connection to outstanding warrants, not directly related to the Dec. 30, 2025, and Jan. 2, 2026, robberies,” said police.

The accused was remanded into custody after his first court appearance.
