Teen with criminal history charged after assault in Sault Ste. Marie

A Sault area teenager faces multiple charges following an assault in the city that sent an adult to hospital.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says officers were called to the 400 block of Albert Street West around 1:15 p.m. on April 15 after 911 operators received a report of an assault.

Police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the altercation.

“An investigation revealed the accused struck an adult victim – who is known to them – with an object, causing minor physical injuries,” said police in a news release.

The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The accused was taken into custody at the scene.

The 15-year-old is charged with assault with a weapon and failing to comply with a sentence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
