One hospitalized after North Bay shooting; police seek suspect

The North Bay Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the Dec. 19 shooting in the area of Seymour Street, Franklin Street and the Highway 11/17 bypass.

The 45-year-old man was arrested with help from the Guelph Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police repeat offender parole enforcement (ROPE) unit.

Police believe the man left a nightclub Dec. 19, where he met the victim.

“The accused and the victim later left the establishment together and drove a short distance before stopping the vehicle,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

“During an altercation, a firearm was discharged, resulting in serious, life-threatening injuries to the victim. The accused then fled the area.”

The suspect, who is from Niagara Falls, is charged with attempted murder, uttering threats, pointing and firing a firearm, and several other firearms-related offences.

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
