The all-women sports bar in Montreal is closed. The day before the Montreal Victoire start their PWHL playoffs, Le Nadia will not be open to play the game. “Today is a shock for the Nadia team,” the bar posted on its Instagram page, saying the team would vacate the 3213 Ontario Street East location in Hochelaga. “Circumstances beyond our control have forced us to cease our activities at this address as of today.” Montreal’s first female sports bar opened its doors in December, promising to play all the Victoire, Montreal Roses FC, women’s Olympics, WNBA and other women’s games for fans. The team said the closure is temporary. “[We’re] hoping to open an exterior venue, within the next 10 days, it all depends on the permit,” co-founder Caroline Côté told CTV News on Saturday. When asked why the bar was forced to close so suddenly, she said it is in the hands of lawyers. Côté said they hope to show the Victoire playoff games and Roses games this season. “Just a couple days to flip things around and find solutions,” she said. The Instagram post said that Nadia is not just a bar, but a community. “And a community doesn’t disappear at the sound of a whistle,” it reads. “Together, we have succeeded in proving that women’s sport deserves its place in a space that brings people together, is inclusive and promotes well-being. And no one can take that away from us.”
