Sault man charged after victim knocked unconscious in business bathroom

A 56-year-old man has been charged with assault following an incident at a Sault business on Great Northern Road last week that left a victim unconscious.

Assault in Business Bathroom

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said that 911 operators received a report of an assault at a business in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road shortly before 3 p.m. on Oct. 29 and officers were dispatched to the scene.

“An investigation revealed a suspect, who is not known to the victim, assaulted them in a bathroom, causing them to lose consciousness,” said police in a news release.

The victim was transported to hospital with what police described as minor physical injuries.

Suspect identified and charged

Following the investigation, police identified a suspect, and on Nov. 1, officers located the accused and took him into custody.

He was charged with assault in the October incident.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 29.
