Power restored after massive outage in the Sault

The cause of a power outage in the Sault that affected more than 34,000 customers Friday morning is being investigated, PUC Services said.

PUC Services in Sault Ste. Marie says power has been restored in the city following an outage that affected just more than 34,000 customers Friday morning.

The utility sent outage notices that said a total of 34,065 of its customers were affected just before 11 a.m. Power was fully restored by noon.

In an update, PUC said the outage was not caused by problems originating with the utility.

“It is an issue with loss of supply to PUC,” the update said.

“We are working with Hydro One to ensure power is restored as quickly as possible.”
