Police seize $120K in suspected cocaine in Thunder Bay

A Hamilton man faces drug trafficking charges after a bust in Thunder Bay. Police seized more than a kilogram of cocaine & $84,000 in cash.

A Hamilton man has been charged with numerous offences following a major drug bust last month in Thunder Bay in which a kilogram of cocaine was seized.

Ontario Provincial Police’s guns and gangs enforcement team began the investigation early in September into drug trafficking in the northwestern Ontario city and nearby communities.

That investigation led to police obtaining search warrants, which were executed Sept. 18 at a local hotel, business and a vehicle in Thunder Bay.

Cocaine, crack cocaine

Items seized include 1.2 kg of suspected cocaine and 20 grams of what is believed to be crack cocaine. A stun gun, cellphones and $84,000 in cash was also seized.

“The estimated street value of the drugs seized is more than $120,000,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

Charges for the Hamilton man include drug trafficking, weapons offences and the possession of the proceeds of crime.

The accused was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Oct. 7.
