Police say Sault man went on spending spree with stolen credit card

Police in Sault Ste. Marie charged a 33-year-old man in connection with purchases made using a credit card from a wallet stolen Nov. 30.

Police were informed Dec. 12 that the wallet had been stolen from a vehicle.

“It was reported that the credit card in the stolen wallet had been used to make several unauthorized purchases,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

“An investigation revealed a suspect had used the stolen card to make an unauthorized purchase at a business in the 1200 block of Wellington Street East and had given the card to another person who also used the card to make an unauthorized purchase. The investigation revealed the identity of the suspect as the accused.”

He was arrested Dec. 23 by officers who were patrolling on Gore Street. Charges include unauthorized use of a credit card, trafficking in a credit card and failing to comply with an undertaking.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
