A 31-year-old Hamilton man faces multiple firearm-related charges after police responded to a report of a person carrying a handgun at an event venue in Temiskaming Shores on Saturday. Ontario Provincial Police said officers received a call for service at about 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 regarding an individual reportedly in possession of a handgun at the venue. “The person was described as carrying a handgun visible in the waistband of his pants,” OPP said in a news release Tuesday. Officers respond, secure weapon OPP said officers attended the venue and located the person matching the description. “The firearm was safely removed and secured by police,” said OPP. The accused was subsequently arrested and transported to the Temiskaming OPP detachment. Multiple charges laid As a result of the investigation, the 31-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a weapon while attending a public meeting, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm. He faces two other firearm-related offences in addition to those counts. The accused is next scheduled to appear before in court in Haileybury on Nov. 24.
