Police in Greater Sudbury have charged a 17-year-old and a 30-year-old woman following an assault with a baseball bat at the Energy Court encampment on Monday evening. Attack sends woman to hospital Officers were dispatched to the scene just before 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 17, 2026, after receiving reports of a weapons-related incident. “Information received indicated that one individual had attacked another individual with a baseball bat before fleeing the scene,” Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release Tuesday. Police said a 42-year-old woman was transported to hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Weapon located Investigators determined that the person responsible for the attack had discarded the baseball bat prior to fleeing. “The weapon was subsequently located through a review of video surveillance footage,” police said. Arrests made hours later At about 9:30 p.m., police said officers located and arrested the individual believed to be responsible for the attack, along with a second individual believed to have been involved. Teen and adult face charges The 17-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. “The youth was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to attend bail court today (Aug. 18) to answer to the charges,” police said in the release. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be identified, and police said no further information regarding their identity will be released. The second individual, a 30-year-old local woman, has been charged with obstructing a peace officer and accessory after the fact. She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 7. “Her name cannot be released at this time, as the information has not yet been sworn through the court process,” police said.
