North Bay police seize $45K in drugs, firearm in bust

A North Bay man faces 11 drug and weapons charges after local police seized a shotgun, $13,000 cash and $45,000 in drugs from a Fisher Street residence.

The North Bay Police Service has seized drugs with an estimated street value of $45,000 and a shotgun, following the arrest of one local man in connection with a lengthy drug trafficking investigation last week.

The street crime unit made the arrest on Nov. 19, taking a 43-year-old man into custody at about 3:25 p.m. as part of an investigation into drug trafficking in the city.

Following the arrest, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Fisher Street.

Subsequent searches led to the seizure of 65 grams of cocaine, a gram of crack cocaine, 125 grams of fentanyl and 160 oxycodone pills along with a manufactured 12-gauge shotgun and $13,100 in cash.

Officers also confiscated tools supporting the production of fentanyl.

Charges laid

The accused faces multiple charges, including six drug trafficking offences, drug possession, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm and two possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime charges.

The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing and has since been remanded. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 20.

Inspector hails “significant impact” on drug supply

Insp. Scott McFarlane said the seizure represents a major disruption to the local illicit drug market.

“This seizure represents another significant impact on the local drug supply,” he said.

“The persistence of our investigators, combined with collaboration, teamwork, and the application of proven investigative techniques, is key to making arrests like this.”
