Motorcycle drivers charged with dangerous driving in North Bay

North Bay police say an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old have been charged with dangerous driving on motorcycles on June 14.

“(Police) received multiple reports of two motorcycles being operated in a dangerous manner with the motorcycles reported to be travelling at high speeds, creating excessive noise, and driving through trails and parks,” the North Bay Police Service said in a news release Thursday.

“They were witnessed by residents along Lakeside Drive, Sage Road, Trout Lake Road and Ski Club Road area.”

While attempting a traffic stop, police said both riders fled and were later located with the 18-year-old found at his home in the Birch Haven area while the youth was arrested on Trout Lake Road.

The 18-year-old South River man faces several charges, including dangerous operation and infractions involving his motorcycle.

The young person from North Bay was charged with dangerous operation and flight from a peace officer.

Both were released on undertakings and are to appear in court at a later date.

“The risks associated with aggressive driving extend far beyond traffic violations. The behaviour created unnecessary danger in neighbourhoods throughout the city, placing the young drivers, responding officers, and public at risk,” said Insp. Scott McFarlane.
