Meth worth $12.4K seized in northern Ont. First Nation arrest

A woman has been arrested in Attawapiskat after police on patrol seized roughly $12,400 worth of methamphetamine.

A 29-year-old woman arrested on outstanding warrants in Attawapiskat First Nation now faces an additional charge of drug trafficking after police seized suspected methamphetamine.

Members of the local Nishnawbe Aski Police Service detachment were on a routine community patrol on Tuesday afternoon, when they observed the woman, who was known to be wanted.

Officers approached her as she was exiting a business on Balsam Street.

“She was taken into custody without incident,” said police in a news release.

Upon further investigation, police learned the woman was also in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, which was seized.

“The estimated street value of drugs seized totals more than $12,400,” said police.

As a result of the investigation, the local woman is now charged with drug trafficking.

The accused appeared for a bail hearing on Wednesday where she was released from custody with conditions and is scheduled for a future court appearance.
