Man charged after vehicle drives into Lake Nipissing

A 41-year-old man from West Nipissing has been charged after a vehicle drove into Lake Nipissing and an altercation with police ensued on Saturday.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to the incident off Pierre Road at about noon on Aug. 23. Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious person on the ground near the point where a vehicle had entered the water.

“Police attempted to wake the individual, who assaulted the officer and then resisted the arrest,” OPP said in a news release.

The man was subsequently taken into custody following the altercation.

As a result of the investigation, the local man faces charges of assaulting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest and failure to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and later released. He is scheduled to appear at the North Bay courthouse on September 4 to answer to the charges.
