Major northern Ont. drug bust sees three charged, $100k in drugs seized

3 people have been charged after $100,000 in drugs were seized in Cobalt. OPP say officers found fentanyl, cocaine, cash and other drug trafficking materials.

Ontario Provincial Police have laid drug trafficking charges against three people and seized an estimated $100,000 in suspected drugs after executing a search warrant in this northeastern Ontario town.

The Temiskaming OPP Detachment, assisted by the canine unit, carried out a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on Nickle Street in Cobalt on Monday. The warrant was executed as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

“As a result of the search, police seized multiple cellular phones, drug paraphernalia, Canadian currency, as well as suspected controlled substances including fentanyl, crack cocaine, cocaine, heroin, speed, crystal methamphetamine and hydromorphone pills,” police said in a news release Friday.

OPP said the estimated street value of the drugs seized is $100,000.

Three individuals were charged in connection with the investigation: a 69-year-old man and two 31-year-old women, all residents of Cobalt, were each charged with seven drug trafficking offences and possession of property obtained by crime.

All three accused were held for a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear in court in Haileybury at a later date.
