An explosive device has been found in the water in Portapique, N.S. Colchester County District RCMP and the Canadian Armed Forces arrived at Beachcomber Lane to remove the device on Wednesday morning. “The explosive device appears to be an old military ordinance that washed up with the tides,” according to an RCMP news release. Police say there will be a small police and military presence in the area and there is no risk to public safety, provided all directions from officials on scene are followed. “People in the area can expect to hear a muffled explosion, similar to the sound of a gunshot, while the removal is taking place,” reads the release.
