Explosives theft in northern Ontario prompts appeal for info from OPP, Crime Stoppers

Ontario Provincial Police and Crime Stoppers are looking for information related to theft of approximately $5,000 in explosives from a business in Bruce Mines.

Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in an ongoing investigation into the theft of explosives from a business in Bruce Mines, Ont., over the summer.

Ontario Provincial Police confirmed they responded to a theft call at a business on Highway 17 in July.

The incident occurred at Ontario Trap Rock Limited.

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District said the theft took place between 10:41 and 10:46 p.m. on July 13, in a news release Friday.

An unknown suspect or suspects entered the property and stole explosives and detonating equipment with an approximate value of $5,000.

“There is currently no immediate risk to public safety,” said OPP in a news release in July.

Appeal for information

Authorities are seeking any information relating to the incident.

“Do you know who was involved?” asked Crime Stoppers director Brian Lester in a related online video.
