Drug, firearm seizure leads to three more arrests in Sault Ste. Marie

Detectives with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service have laid an additional 11 charges against three people following the execution of a search warrant on Arbor Drive earlier this week, bringing the total number of accused in the case to five.

On Feb. 23, detectives executed a search warrant at the Arbor Drive residence and the two people were located inside taken into custody and subsequently charged.

The search also resulted in the seizure of:

• a loaded handgun which had its serial number tampered with,
• approximately 99.62 grams of suspected fentanyl,
• about 14.14 grams of suspected cocaine,
• approximately 3.64 grams of suspected methamphetamine,
• a digital scale,
• drug packaging materials,
• three cell phones and
• more than $5,000 in cash.

“The total estimated street value of drugs seized is approximately $17,428,” police said Tuesday.

On Feb. 24, police charged a 50-year-old man, an 81-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman with multiple offences related to the previously executed search.

The three accused are each charged with two drug trafficking offences, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with and four other firearm related offences.

All three accused were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court on May 11.
