Baton, knives, drugs seized in Sault arrest

A 34-year-old local man is facing multiple weapon and drug-related charges after police patrolling Queen Street East in Sault Ste. Marie arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said officers with the Division 2 Unit made the arrest around 1:15 p.m. on April 15.

Search turns up baton, knives, suspected cocaine

“Upon searching the accused, officers located and seized an expandable baton, two knives, and approximately 5.38 grams of quantity of suspected cocaine,” police said in a news release.

The man has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon and drug possession. In addition, he faces four counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and two counts of failing to comply with an appearance notice.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
