Alberta man faces array of charges following northwestern Ont. traffic stop

Police video shows Ontario Provincial Police stopping a white pickup truck for speeding, a man being administered a breathalyzer and being taken into custody.

A 39-year-old man from Alberta is scheduled to appear in an Ontario courtroom next month after a traffic stop by Ontario Provincial Police on Highway 11-17 led to a litany of charges – including probation violations.

Highway stop uncovers multiple infractions

OPP said that officers initiated the stop at about 2:05 p.m. on Dec. 23 after clocking a pickup truck travelling at 125 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone in Shuniah, Ont.

Upon interacting with the driver, police say they discovered a range of other alleged infractions.

“Speeding, open alcohol and cannabis, abundance of unmarked cigarettes and enough alcohol in his system for a three-day roadside suspension,” said OPP in a social media detailing the incident.

As a result, the motorist was taken into custody and charged.

In addition to speeding, OPP levied charges for operating a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor and having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available and possessing untaxed tobacco against the driver. The Albertan is also charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay on Jan. 21.
