Man arrested after truck tumbles into Lachine Canal

A 33-year-old man has been arrested after the truck he was driving, with two others inside, tumbled into the Lachine Canal on Tuesday night.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 8:45 p.m. about the incident near Mill and Riverside streets, not far from the Farine Five Roses building.

The driver and the two passengers, aged 21 and 29, were able to get out of the vehicle on their own.

There were no reported injuries.

“The driver failed the breathalyzer and was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol, and also for dangerous driving,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police, noting that speed was also a factor.

She adds the driver was released with a summons to appear at the Montreal municipal courthouse on Oct. 7.
